LOOMING BUDGET CUTS THREATEN VITAL PROGRAMS
At Lowell, the outlook for 2023 is very concerning due to the continuing budget crisis facing the San Francisco Unified School District: reduced library hours; counseling office closures; cancelled course offerings from Science electives to World Language programs (Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin) and instrumental music; and curtailment of special programs such as journalism, yearbook, student activities, Peer Resources and our heavily-utilized Wellness Center.
But we have it within our power to prevent those events from occurring. This past summer, hundreds of alumni, parents and other friends of Lowell made it possible for the Lowell Alumni Association to provide $600,000 and the Lowell PTSA to add another $300,000 to offset a significant portion of the 2022 budget cuts at Lowell. Now is the time for us to prepare for the upcoming budget cuts that will be announced in early 2023 along with the faculty and staff layoff notices that will be issued on March 15.
Now is the time for Lowell alumni and other friends to step up to play our part in preserving critical programs that serve Lowell students. Thank you for your support!
