Thousands Expected for Sesquicentennial Banquet Honoring Lowell Teachers
By Terence Abad '76

Click here to see more photos of Moscone Center West from Moscone.com The red and white bunting hasn't gone up just yet, but invitations have been sent far and wide and hundreds of alumni, faculty, students, parents and other friends are making plans to attend the centerpiece event of Lowell's Sesquicentennial celebration, the gala banquet at Moscone Center West on Saturday, June 3. In keeping with the banquet's special theme - "A Tribute to Teachers" - all current and former Lowell faculty and staff have been invited to attend as the special guests of the Lowell Alumni Association so the entire Lowell community can express its most sincere appreciation for all that these dedicated professionals have done to enhance the lives of generations of Lowell students.

Already, scores of written tributes to Lowell teachers have arrived from alumni of all ages, awaiting display as part of the Tribute Wall that will grace the expansive third floor lobby at Moscone Center West where the pre-banquet cocktail party will be held. (There's still time for you to submit your personal tribute to the Lowell teachers who made a difference in your life - just mail or e-mail us today.) Special areas will be designated at the cocktail party for alumni from specific decades in order to facilitate socializing with Lowell contemporaries. And the class of 1976 promises a strong showing because they have decided to hold their 30-year reunion as part of this special evening, so expect a healthy dose of the "Spirit of '76."

Rumor has it that Jack Anderson (Lowell '50 and a member of the Lowell faculty from 1954 through the 1980s) has been tapped to serve as master of ceremonies. The evening's formal program will feature a video tribute to Lowell teachers of the past and present, along with music and entertainment by current students and a few special presentations.

Even after the formal program concludes, the party will continue until midnight, with music and plenty of time to visit with classmates and teachers. With over 130 current and former faculty and staff already planning to attend (see the list below, which is current as of May 1, or visit www.lowellalumni.org/tribute for the latest guest list), you may have the chance to offer your personal thanks to a favorite Lowell teacher. Or you may want to join us on June 3rd to raise a toast to a departed teacher and share some favorite memories with classmates. Either way, you'll find yourself in good company as we continue to celebrate Lowell's 150th birthday.

Be sure to RSVP by May 20th so you won't miss out on what promises to be the largest gathering of Lowell alumni and faculty in or 150-year history!
